As Outwood English Hub continues to grow, we are extending our team of Literacy Specialists to support early language and literacy in Reception and early reading and fluency in Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3.  These seconded roles are for one or two days a week and offer a brilliant opportunity for experienced teachers and leaders to contribute to system-wide improvement, deepen their expertise and help build strong, inclusive reading cultures across our regions of Wakefield, Hull, Harrogate and Selby. 

Early Language and Literacy Specialist

We are seeking to recruit skilled and committed Early Years teachers and leaders who have played a leading role in improving Reception communication, language and literacy outcomes and provision in their own schools. Early Language and Literacy Specialists are seconded from their home school, with the full support of their headteacher, to work alongside schools supported by the English Hub. They will be central to the English Hub offer and work closely with school leaders and teachers to strengthen early literacy provision in Reception, particularly the effective implementation of the DfE’s Writing framework.

Key Stage 2 Literacy Specialist:

We are looking for dedicated educators with a passion for reading in Key Stage 2 to join our team. They will have played a leading role in improving reading outcomes in their own schools and have a proven track record of excellent teaching. KS2 Literacy Specialists are seconded from their home school, with the full support of their headteacher, to work alongside schools supported by the English Hub. Literacy Specialists are central to the English Hub offer and work closely with school leaders and teachers to strengthen reading catch-up and fluency instruction.

Key Stage 3 Literacy Specialist:

Outwood English Hub is seeking to appoint talented and committed teachers or leaders, with a particular focus on candidates who bring proven experience within improving reading in KS3. They will have played a leading role in improving reading outcomes in their own schools for pupils not meeting the expected standard in reading at the end of KS2 and promoted reading fluency and enjoyment across school. KS3 Literacy Specialists are seconded from their home school, with the full support of their headteacher, to work alongside schools supported by the English Hub. Literacy Specialists are central to the English Hub offer and work closely with school leaders and teachers to strengthen reading catch-up and fluency.

Applications for these roles will close at 5pm on Friday 13th March, 2026. Initial interviews will be held on Tuesday 24th March, 2026. Visits to shortlisted schools will be week commencing Monday 20th April, 2026
